Sobriety calculator

How many days sober are you? Enter your sobriety date to see your time in days, weeks, months and years, your next milestone, and what you have kept by not drinking.

This calculator needs JavaScript. To count by hand, work out the full days from your sobriety date to today: if your date was yesterday, you have 1 day.

How the count works

Your sobriety date is usually the first full day without a drink. The calculator counts the full days between that date and today, so on the day itself you are on day zero, and the next morning you have 1 day. Some recovery groups count the date itself as day one; if that's your tradition, add one.

Months and years follow the calendar, so a month can be 28 to 31 days. Weeks and hours are worked out from the total number of days.

Milestones worth marking

Early milestones come close together because the first days are often the hardest. These are the milestones LastGlass marks in the app:

After the first year, every year counts. Many people also mark their own: a first sober holiday, a first wedding without a drink, a first Friday that felt easy.

Keep the count with you

LastGlass is a private alcohol-free counter for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. The live counter ticks up by the second, milestones mark the way and money kept adds up. A short daily check-in keeps your record honest, and I need support now offers an urge timer, breathing, grounding, your reasons and a trusted contact. The core app is free; no account needed.

Frequently asked questions

How do you calculate how many days sober you are?

Count the full days from your sobriety date to today. This calculator works that way: if your sobriety date was yesterday, today you have 1 day. Some groups count the sobriety date itself as day one, which adds one day to the total.

What is a sobriety date?

Usually the first full day you did not drink. Some people use the day after their last drink instead. Choose the date that means most to you and use it consistently.

What if I drank after my sobriety date?

That happens to many people who change their drinking, and it does not wipe out what you learned. Some people restart the count; others keep track of total alcohol-free days as well. In LastGlass, a hard day stays in your record without erasing the clear days around it.

Is my sobriety date saved or sent anywhere?

No. The calculation runs in your browser and nothing is sent to us. When you calculate, your date is added to the end of the page address after the # sign so you can bookmark it. Browsers never send that part of an address to the server.

How is the money kept worked out?

Weeks since your sobriety date, multiplied by the drinks you used to have per week and your average price per drink. It is an estimate based on your own numbers, the same way LastGlass estimates money kept.
